This was no ordinary road safety talk as this team came with a truck which had music and a member of the RTI singing and dancing to a song they created about crossing the road. Service users were encouraged to sing and dance along making learning and creating awareness of road safety fun and more understandable.
The lesson given by the members for RTI was alertness when at the robots, crossing the road and being aware of surroundings. They highlighted topics such as safety in public transport, speaking on cell phone whilst driving and alerting friends of safety.
Members of the Fire Department presented how to react in time of a fire at home and at work. A service user put on the uniform used in circumstances where the fireman has to go into the fire. How to use a fire extinguisher was taught. Service users were also given the opportunity to hold the fire hose and spray water displaying how powerful the water is that puts the fires out and how to roll on the floor when in a fire. This was a very informative and fun exercise for our service users.
The KZN liquor authority gave a talk on alcohol abuse. Most people drink and are a danger in the road whilst walking as they do not have their correct sober senses. Service users were encouraged to seek help should they have a drinking problem and they were also made aware of the consequences of drinking and being on the road.
